Community Service Centres
The Waikerie Community Centre provides a ‘one stop shop’ for people living in the area to agencies providing human services. These programs / services include Supported Accommodation, Family Support Services and outreach services such as a Centrelink Agency, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, job network services, Aboriginal Health and Family and Youth Services.
In addition to providing easy access to services for local people, agencies are able to share the costs of maintaining office facilities in Waikerie, which enables resources to be allocated to service delivery. The Community Centre has been so successful that the model has been used as an example of best practice, both in South Australia and interstate, for the management of services in regional areas.

Community Development Program
All Riverland staff work within the Community Development program. This ensures every staff member has a strong commitment to addressing community issues. Examples of strategies that have been developed are the Waikerie Community Centre, the Right on Target Youth Peer Education Program and the Healthy Pregnancies Project. This year the Anglican Community Care staff at the Waikerie Community Centre have facilitated and been involved in the Breakfast program at the local primary and high school as well as the Indigenous Representative Council at the high school.
Recreation Link-Up
Recreation Link-Up is a service which as has been established to link people who have a disability into community recreational activities of their choice.
The Recreation Link-Up program is flexible in its delivery as it provides a one on one service for people with a disability to become involved in recreational activities within their community. It also provides a range of groups for young people to engage in. These have included Kaleidoscope, a choir for young people to enjoy and develop their vocal skills; Pro Sport which encourages adults to participate in sports such as Netball, Cricket, Hockey etc; drama and Sharing The Fun which is a segregated skill development program with games, movement, fitness and social interaction.
Victim Support Service
The Victim Support Service is a community-based, not for profit organisation in South Australia. Qualified professional staff provide a comprehensive range of services for victims of a criminal offence. Individual victims of crime, their familles, and the wider community members can access this service.
Resources were provided from the Victims of Crime fund to enable the Victim Support Service to assist to victims in 5 regional centres in South Australia. Later, additional resources were provided to enable the service in Murray Bridge to be established.
The Murray Bridge Victim Support Service was introduced using a community development model which promotes a sense of local ownership and encourages the whole community to accept responsibility for assisting crime victims. Anglican Community Care is pleased to be the local organisation which was chosen to share this responsibility.
Youth Development Program
The Youth Development Program provides Indigenous young people in the Berri, Barmera and Gerard areas with social, recreational and educational activities. These activities enable young people to develop confidence, achieve success, work as a team and actively participate in the community. Furthermore this program coordinates the Riverland Indigenous Youth Action Committee, which is a committee of young people who are supported to develop leadership skills and to act as a voice for indigenous young people in the wider community.
